Q&A of RFID for IT asset tracking

Q: Is RFID inside a metal box readable?
A: You cannot read RFID through metal, but if the box is open then it is highly possible to read RFID. In any case, it is always recommended to test the readability in real application. Tagged assets have big impact on readability.

Q: Are there tags or labels (UHF) that can stand microwave ovens?
A: Yes we do have tags that can withstand microwave, tailored for food packaging. Reach out to your Confidex/Beontag sales representative for more information.

Q: What is the read range of Silverline?
A: Read range comes with the size and varies from the 3,5 meters of the smallest Silverline Micro II to 15 meters of the biggest Silverline Classic II.

Q: Are there any solutions with a range further than 30 meters?
A: Confidex Survivor reads close to 30 meters. As read range varies between applications it would be good to test in your use case.

Q: Can RFID tags send some environmental info like temp or humidity?
A: Yes, we have passive RFID products with sensors such as temperature, humidity and strain. Please reach out to your Confidex/Beontag sales representative for more information.

Q: Can we use on metal tags on non-metal surface?
A: Generally yes. Some on metal labels are not reading as well non-metal but some are designed to be more universal. We specify also off-metal read range in our datasheets for on metal labels.

Q: Are there RFID transponders available, that work in both ranges, UHF and NFC range?
A: Yes, such as our Carrier Dual. We also have other size options in our portfolio. Please contact your sales representative for more information.

Q: What would the best solution be for RFID labeling of spare parts needed at the maintenance and repairs in a factory?
A: Parts tracking is very popular use of RFID. The best tag for the application depends on the parts themselves. For example, if we would need on metal or off metal labels.

Q: Do you have any example to tag a laptop, tablet or a mobile phone without a seeable tag? Often the problem is with tagging these items is that the customers complaining because the seeable tags on the devices?
A: Generally it is possible to place RFID tag also inside a laptop, but the position of the tag would vary between different laptop types which makes it challenging for the installation process. Also read range would vary. Metallic laptops might be a challenge to tag inside inside. Mobile phones have usually no space inside for RFID tag, unless the device is specifically designed to have RFID tag inside.

Q: Does your BLE tags have a replaceable battery or it is non replaceable?
A: We have both options available. The latest Viking Slim has replaceable battery.

Q: Do you have UHF Tamper Proof tags?
A: Yes, we have products for both metal and non-metallic surfaces. Please reach out to your sales representative for more information.

Q:Do you have some labels with an special antenna that can reduce the shadowing effect when they are together, one over another? To be used with papers or documents?
A: We do have few ECO products that are specifically designed to be stacked on top of each others, such as Hanger ST and Rack ST.
