Just about a month ago we announced our third Green Tuesday campaign for our partners. 3% of the value of all purchases made in our partner network during Nov 28 – Dec 2, 2022, was donated to The Ocean Cleanup organization. Thank you so much to all our partners who took part!
The theme of this year’s campaign was “Cleaning the rivers”. Rivers are the main source of plastic in the oceans. According to the research conducted by The Ocean Cleanup, 1000 rivers are responsible for roughly 80% of all riverine pollution. The Ocean Cleanup has built and tested Interceptor technologies to capture waste from some of the most polluted rivers in the world.
What has been achieved?
As we told during the Green Tuesday campaign, The Ocean Cleanup announced on November 10th that their Interceptor 007 is up and running in Ballona Creek, LA County, USA where it successfully started to extract plastic and other debris to full capacity. By the beginning of December the Interceptor 007 had prevented more than 15,000 kg of waste from reaching the Pacific Ocean. Their Interceptor 002 has already collected over 1,000 000 kg of trash from River Klang, Malaysia.
