Confidex introduces Bluetooth® beacons to increase the contextual value of industrial assets

“We bring industrial-grade wireless Links to all manufacturing and industrial processes,” says Timo Inkinen, Executive Vice President at Confidex.

The range of use cases for the Internet of Things (IoT) knows no sectoral boundaries. For example, the same insights that work in the automotive industry also apply to the forest industry.

“We see that the contextual value of assets grows when more and more things are connected to the Internet. With objects communicating with one another, new ways of operation are being created for the industrial processes. When the right object is in the right place at the right time in its expected condition, objects become more valuable than their use value suggests,” says Timo Inkinen.

Every day, Confidex links more than 100 million industrial assets with data all around world. The company has more than 12 years of experience in IoT, with satisfied customers like Volvo Cars, CHEP and Hilti.

Confidex is now introducing the upcoming modular, industrial grade Confidex Viking™ beacon family, as part of its industrial wireless technology offering, Links. Confidex Viking™ beacons, based on Nordic Semiconductor nRF52-series Bluetooth Low Energy chipset, are designed for industrial asset tracking, indoor and outdoor locating as well as sensor telemetry. The beacons can be used to monitor conditions, such as temperature, and send location data over distances of hundreds of yards in real time. The large-scale and wide area Mesh Connectivity for the new beacon family is enabled by Wirepas.

“Together, Confidex and Wirepas are able to address new industrial use cases which pose a totally new level of challenge to the hardware and the connectivity solution. We are proud to partner with Confidex, the industrial identification leader, and address the growing asset management market” Wirepas CEO, Teppo Hemiä says.

Confidex centers its expertise on reliable Links; wireless identification tags, labels and beacons that reliably connect physical world’s assets to data. Links ensure data reliability in the world of IoT, bringing genuine added value to business operations. Customers greatly appreciate the ease of use, durability and security of the technologies offered by Confidex, and the company provides solutions customized to customers’ needs.

With upcoming beacons, the portfolio of technologies that Confidex offers is expanding horizontally, and customers will be provided with industrial-grade real-time location and sensing data. Confidex’ in-house expertise on multiple wireless identification technologies creates also totally new opportunities for the customers.

“The introduction of beacons to our Links offering also means that our customers will be able to get all of our wireless identification technologies in one product. With such multi-connectivity beacons, with NFC and RFID integrated, customers can reliable and easily cover the identification needs of their value chains, end-to-end” continues Inkinen.

The modular Confidex Viking™ beacon products will become available as a Developer Kit on November 1, 2017, and in volumes during the first quarter of 2018.

The upcoming beacons are presented in action at RFID & IoT Tomorrow in Düsseldorf, Germany, on September 27 and 28, 2017.
