Confidex product was selected due manufacturing experience

The Waltti travel card system, with which the newly ordered championships card is compatible, is currently in use in 13 cities in Finland and in three countryside regions. During November 2016, the Waltti travel card was used for 4,3 million trips nationwide. The Waltti travel card system is planned to be rollout out across Finland as a whole by 2018.

“We needed a new ticket product for the LAHTI2017 FIS NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS, to be used by tourists, as a day pass, and enabling travel for our accredited suppliers and volunteer staff during the event. We have not previously had a tourist ticket in the LSL public transport system. This new smart ticket will be sold over four zones for 1 to 7 days validity. The disposable 1 day ticket will be used in the future also for individual compulsory school pupils and for group travels.” Mr. Venesjärvi tells about the new smart mobility implementation.

The city of Lahti prepares welcoming tourists and trusts partner co-operation

The LAHTI2017 FIS NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS affect the local public transport with an estimated increase of 8’000 daily trips by the competition staff members. On top of this, the city officials estimate extra traffic due to the arrival of national and foreign tourists and of course there will be increased traffic from the local citizens and nearby county inhabitants due to the event. LSL has prepared to add more transportation capacity during the event, especially towards the competition ending times.

“We will follow up the traffic situation with our operators and prepare to take action, launching extra transportation capacity, as needed. The co-operation with Confidex has also been excellent. The company has delivered flexibly according to our hopes and needs. We warmly recommend Confidex and its products and services for anyone in need of smart ticketing solutions.” Mr. Venesjärvi concludes.

Mr. Petteri Lavikko, Director of Product Management at Confidex Smart Mobility, comments: “We are delighted to work together with LSL and participate in making the Championships a success. What kind of city is Lahti, the centre of 2017 Nordic World Ski Championship?
And about LSL, Lahden Seudun Liikenne, the city’s public transport committee

Lahti is a city of almost 120,000 residents and the centre for a region of 200,000 people. It has the best of both worlds: the attractiveness, intimate coziness and originality of a small town, yet the services, efficiency and logistics of a major city. As Lahti is the dream city for active, sport loving people, hiking trails, ski tracks and biking routes begin from the very city centre. Lahti’s newly build travel centre, Matkakeskus, operates as a hub of public transportation, providing easy access for transferring between different transportation methods. In the centre of Lahti lies a marketplace and a sports centre, both easily accessible by foot. In Lahti, the whole public transport circles around the central marketplace – this is also where the LAHTI2017 NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIP grand and festive distribution of prizes takes place after the competition.
